Kiawah River, a new waterfront community, located on Johns Island, will include residential homes, Angler’s Cabins. The limited collection of turn-key cabins is the latest addition to Kiawah River’s waterfront options, wooded and village homes, and homesites. The 11 one-bedroom, detached cabins average 800 square feet and will offer water access with several launch points for fishing + exploring the Kiawah River and inland waterways. Construction is expected to be completed in the fall of 2021.

South Carolina’s organ + tissue donor program, We Are Sharing Hope SC, broke ground on its new headquarters building in West Ashley this year. The organization is responsible for facilitating the gift of life in South Carolina. The new building is designed to educate South Carolinians about organ + tissue donation and share the stories of local donor heroes and transplant recipients by inviting the community to explore donation at a deeper level. The estimated completion date is September 2021.

The Society at Laurens, a luxury multifamily community downtown, will consist of 148 apartment units spanning across two buildings that Laurens Street will separate. We’re told the community will be ‘amenity-rich, with perks such as a resort-style pool, a resident lounge, a fitness center, and a business center. Pre-leasing is projected to begin in 2021, + the developers (Tennessee-based Southern Land Company) expect it to be ready for tenants to start moving in later in the year. The estimated completion date is late 2021.

Charleston’s International African American Museum (IAAM) will serve as a center that will highlight + educate others about the journey of millions of Africans, captured and forced across the Atlantic in the grueling and inhumane Middle Passage, arriving at Gadsden’s Wharf in Charleston and other ports in the Atlantic World. Museum features will include an African Ancestors Memorial Garden, gardens for quiet contemplation, various exhibitions, a center where visitors will have the opportunity to trace their genealogy, + more. Charlestonians should see the finished building from the outside in 2021, as completion of the museum is on track for spring/summer of 2021. The opening date is scheduled for 2022.
